- <x xmlns:edi='http://ecommerce.example.org/schema'>
what if i wrote invalid URL or if i wrote a URL that is already mapped with another XML document on the web?

If you used an invalid URI, then you would be violating the standard and parsers would have to either try to error correct or report an error.

If you used a namespace which already had a meaning, then you could expect parsers to try to interpret your elements and attributes as belonging to that namespace.

A large part of the reason for using URIs as namespaces is that they have ownership, so the chances of an accidental collision are remote.
